We still have scheduled black outs in the areas where electricity is supplied from the Tokyo Electric Power Company. We are all trying to live and work as usual without using much energy.

Today, I would like to introduce a message from my friend and a colleague, Ichiro Ozawa (soccer journalist). He came up a few times in my blog. He writes columns and reports about soccer on a website called Sports Navi. I will upload it in both Japanese and English.

Dear all Australians.

Thank you for the swift and generous support for Japan. I would like to show my gratitude as a Japanese civilian.

We are facing disasters that are unheard of. But we are trying to make cool judgments based on reliable information.

For the accident at the nuclear power plant, we are both the victims and the assailant. We are very sorry for frightening many people around the world.

Through the accident, we, the Japanese, are starting to acquire correct information about nuclear power plants, and radiation. I won’t say blindly that everything is okay, but I believe that with correct information, unseen terror will gradually fade away. I hope that all Australians act calmly.

日本に対する迅速で慈悲深いご支援ありがとうございます。

いち日本人として心より感謝します。

大地震、津波、原発事故と未曾有の危機に瀕している我々ですが、

希望と正しい情報に基づいた冷静な判断を忘れず日々生活しています。

特に原発事故については、我々は被害者であり加害者であります。

近隣諸国をはじめ世界中の人々を恐怖に陥れてしまったことについて深くお詫び申し上げます。

しかし、我々日本人は今回の事故を経験して原発や放射線についての正しい知識と理解を身につけつつあります。

闇雲に「大丈夫です」と言うつもりはありませんが、冷静に情報を集めれば「目に見えない恐怖」は消えていきます。

どうか豪州の皆様にも落ち着いた対応をお願いしたいと思います。
